Questions and analysis for the WaterAid advert.

How is the UK represented in the advert ?

-The UK in the advert is represented as resourceful, due to having water consistently and news on the radio about updates on what's happening in the country.
-It's also represented as rainy, cold and wealthy due to stereotypical views people have on the UK.

Who are the target audience ? How can you tell ?

-The target audience is middle class families that waste water or misuse the luxury they have of it.
-I can tell this by the view of the window, at the start of the advert where it was shown as raining, cold, green, fresh and spacious which is a middle class stereotypical idea.

How is the landscape of Africa represented in the advert ?

-The landscape of Africa is represented as dry and empty by the image shown where the young lady was carrying a bucket without water and her background was full of dull props.
-It's also represented as peaceful when the pupils in the video grouped together and sang together with clean, golden water flowing down.

How are the people in Africa represented in the advert ? Focus on the main character as well as other people you see.

-The people in Africa are represented in this advert as happy, grateful and innocent
-The main character was represented as pure, kind, hard-working and grateful also, as she strolled casually to her people and brung joy.

What is the central message of the advert and how does it achieve this ? Look at techniques to appeal to the audience and the technical codes used.

-The central message of this advert is to use the luxury of water the right way and stop waste because not everyone has the same options as each other and the amount you waste could've prevented someone from losing water or just be stored to help countries that have lost.
-The advert achieves this by showing how far young women have to walk just to collect water instead of it being close to them as middle class people in the UK have it.
-Technical codes such as the Bright colours that are shown closer to the end of the video could represent happiness for now but not permanently. Which could also link to the song as it grabs the audiences attention before something drastic happens.

Does the advert follow or subvert the conventions of the  charity advert genre ? Compare with other adverts you have seen which focus on negative emotions and representations and focus on a narrative of a victim that need saving. Water Aid's previous campaign is good for a comparison too.

-This advert partially follows and partially does not follow the conventions of the charity advert genre due to it not being as direct and sad as typical charity adverts are.
-Other adverts such as

Give specific examples of technical codes ( camera shots , lighting, graphics etc. ) to support your points:
