TASK 2 : MAINSTREAM FILM : BLACK PANTHER INTRO TASK : Answer the following questions about Black Panther: 1 Why is Black Panther defined as a mainstream film ? -Black panther is defined as a mainstream film as it contains 3 essential mainstream genres Action, Sci-fi and Superhero that attract a wider audiene and sells faster. Genres and genre conventions the film uses to appeal to a wide audience of mainstream genres Is the film part of an ongoing franchise with links to other media products and therefore a large preexisting audience? Narrative structure : is the film linear and have a clear and upbeat ending ? Any room for a sequel ? Marvel Studios received financing to produce the slate of ten films to be distributed by Paramount Pictures. 200 million USD. How large-scale was the distribution ? How financially successful was it ? Budget was $200 million The film grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide and broke numerous box office records, including the highest-grossing film by a black director. It became the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time, the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada, and the second-highest-grossing film of 2018. Does it also have any of the key features of an independent film? -The only features Black panther could possibly have in unity with independent films is the audience of the elderly as it was popular and almost everyone watched. 2 How does Black Panther fit into the Marvel franchise and universe ? -Black panther fits into the Marvel franchise and universe by gaining more money for the company as it is memorable and highly invested in. For example if Black Panther 2 was made and released Marvel was gain more audience and way more monet as the first was a success. 3 What makes it different from other films in the Marvel cinematic universe ? This could mean that other shows are less recognised and pushed back or even possibly discoutined if it's not bringing in enough audience or funds. Consider the narrative of the film ,characters, critical response, range of audiences The narrative of the film 4 What made it successful ? The genre, visuals and storyline due to it's interesting unique type of action, superheroes theme throughtout the film that attract the audience to watch more. Consider the film itself, the star, the existing fanbase , the cultural contexts of its release e.g BLM , oscars so white , the range of audiences.
