Analyse  the content of the music video for Dream , using the technical codes ( use of camera, lighting, props , costume, iconography etc )and the narrative of the video  to focus on the following areas :

-Light pastel colours, playful setting
-Middle class area, urban area references
-Toys as representation of the artists name, opposes grime setting of music and imagery

Narrative:

What is the main narrative and message  of the song  , and how is this  added to or altered by the visual elements of  the video ( e.g lighting and colour ,camera framing ) and the techniques used, such as the use of puppets? 

-The message of the video is to continue trying to succeed and become something because he was able to, even after mass failure
-This is added by his puppets being happy

Does the video subvert or confirm the messages and content of the song?  

-The video is a bit different to the message of the lyrics, this is based off the bright colours, playful puppets and the title of the song 'dream' which is more mainstream pop musical structure. Whereas grime music structure is usually more direct and negative

Representation:

How is ethnicity, age , gender and class represented in the video ? What binary oppositions are created or shown in the video between different stereotypes?

-Ethnicity of ethnic minorities are represented in the video as deviant and trouble due to the puppets (as people of colour) hanging around looking for sex and are fighting with the police causing disruption
-Age in this video from the characters are represented as younger teenagers being immature and uneducated
-Gender in this video is shown as men causing animosity and they should try to work/ help out more while females are represented as innocent and attractive

Intertextuality: What cultural or media references does the video and song make and why?

-Black British males being controlled and having little freedom in a middle class caucasian world
-This video also references to the gender stereotypes that men don't do enough in families
-This video also references black men having around shops and getting into trouble with the police

THEORY:  Post-colonialism (Gilroy) : Does the video refer to "traditional white " UK culture and create a binary opposition with modern multicultural Britain? How?

-This video references to the traditional white culture from the white lady playing the piano and
