 Riptide by Vance Joy: GENRE AND AUDIENCE Research and summarise the indie genre : conventions, influences, audience  and key artists. What is the definition of " indie " and does the artist, video fit into this category ? Indie is a pop group, record label, or film company not belonging or affiliated to a major record or film company. This video fits into an indie  category due to its free use of examples of how women are treated in society by men and are exploited. NARRATIVE AND ICONOGRAPHY Linear , clear and resolved narrative , or fragmented montage based on the lyrics of the song ? Analyse scenes for symbolic objects and the meaning they contain . The scene where the lady was tied to the tree with multiple layers of rope struggling to detangle it could represent how women are stopped from living independently or freely. The scene where the woman was lip syncing along to the lyrics in the song with slow in time movements could also suggest she or women as a collective hav

Dizzee rascal - Dream notes 12/10/20

Analyse  the content of the music video for Dream , using the technical codes ( use of camera, lighting, props , costume, iconography etc )and the narrative of the video  to focus on the following areas : -Light pastel colours, playful setting -Middle class area, urban area references -Toys as representation of the artists name, opposes grime setting of music and imagery - Narrative: What is the main narrative and message  of the song  , and how is this  added to or altered by the visual elements of  the video ( e.g lighting and colour ,camera framing ) and the techniques used, such as the use of puppets?  -The message of the video is to continue trying to succeed and become something because he was able to, even after mass failure -This is added by his puppets being happy - Does the video subvert or confirm the messages and content of the song?   -The video is a bit different to the message of the lyrics, this is based off the bright colours, playful puppets and the title of the song

Questions and analysis for the WaterAid advert.

How is the UK represented in the advert ?  -The UK in the advert is represented as resourceful, due to having water consistently and news on the radio about updates on what's happening in the country. -It's also represented as rainy, cold and wealthy due to stereotypical views people have on the UK. Who are the target audience ? How can you tell ? -The target audience is middle class families that waste water or misuse the luxury they have of it. -I can tell this by the view of the window, at the start of the advert where it was shown as raining, cold, green, fresh and spacious which is a middle class stereotypical idea. How is the landscape of Africa represented in the advert ? -The landscape of Africa is represented as dry and empty by the image shown where the young lady was carrying a bucket without water and her background was full of dull props. -It's also represented as peaceful when the pupils in the video grouped together and sang together with clean, golden water

  Sound : -Singing solo at the start with symbolic messages in her song, for example ' Make me feel, make me feel like I belong ' which is a mainstream song that will grab the audiences attention -News cast at the start stating that the next few days will be rainy -Song is sung by a group towards the end making the message more emphasised and powerful towards the audience -Crickets (insects) Representation of the uk : -Traditional uk living room with news and radio on -Raining (stereotype about the uk) -UK waste water and not everyone has the same luxury -In the countryside or nice house, outside view of garden and trees (middle class household in uk) Effect on audience : -Persuasion -Hope -Empathy -Little bit of Guilt (UK uses water freely whereas in Africa have to walk miles to get it and sometimes can't unless it's previously stored) Lighting : -Cold lighting at the start to then warm lighting Imagery : -No water -Dry land -Buckets to store and collect any water poss
